The 7th Wood River High School Chess Championship began just minutes ago in my classroom. Ten WRHS student competitors, eager to win the gargantuan trophies I purchased are vying for the school championship and title. I donated other swag for the winners, Bobby Fischer's book, executive chess set, Diamond chess clock. This will be a resume builder for some. Desmond Porth, previous champion, and Megan Jones, 12th grade State Champion began their games against newcommers, Anthony Flores and Keegan Crowson, respectively. As it is Keegan's birthday, I made a cake and brewed some coffee for a celebration in between rounds. Stay tuned I am going to try and post "as it unfolds." Good luck to all!
